Rank Structure
At the E-7 level in the Air Force (E-8 for Army and Marines), there are two positions at the same pay grade. If the Air Force NCO has a diamond in the center of his insignia, he is a first sergeant. Whether one is, for example, a senior master sergeant or a first sergeant depends on the person's job. Likewise, Marine Corps maste r gunnery sergeants and sergeants major receive the same pay but have different responsibilities. For a more complete table of enlisted rank insignia, reference http://www.defenselink.mil/pubs/almanac/almanac/people/insignias/index.html. Note: Naval officer rank will appear as stripes on the jacket sleeve, as stripes on epaulets, or as metal rank (identical to other services) on collars and flight caps. |
